Wizard ball will get kids working together to protect the wizard in this fun twist on the classic active group game dodge ball game.
Supplies
- 2 hula hoop or poly spot
- 1 pool noodle cut in half, so you have two short pool noodles
- Dodge balls
Setup
Slip the playing area into two equal sides. In the center of each side place the hula hoop. Place the dodge balls on the center line of the playing area. Select two players to be the wizard, one for each side. The wizards will stand in the hula hoop’s center with ½ the pool noodle. Split the remaining players into two equal teams.
How to
This game plays like a traditional dodge ball game. Players will try to hit opponents with a ball. If they are successful, the player who was hit by a ball will sit down where they were hit. If a player tries to hit an opponent with a ball and the opponent catches the ball the player who threw the ball sits down where they threw the ball from. Players must stay on their own side of the playing area and may not step over the center line. When a player is sitting, they may not catch or throw balls.
Unlike traditional dodge ball, they only way back into the game is by being “healed” by the wizard. If the wizard touches a teammate with his/her “wand”, the pool noodle, the player is healed and can rejoin the game.
When the wizard is in his/her “realm of safety” (the hula hoop) they can not be harmed. Any ball that hits him/her will do no damage. When a wizard leaves his/her realm they no longer have protection. If a wizard is hit while outside of the realm, the wizard is down and out of the game. No others can be saved.
The game is over when one team has defeated the other, and all players are sitting.
