Mini Bow & Arrow; A Craft Boys will Like

Spread the love

This Mini bow & arrow activity is a fun craft that all kids enjoy.  Of course, you want to make sure they are being safe (the adult in me made me type that). While safety is always of top priority, these mini bow and arrows use Q-Tips, dental floss and craft sticks, they are not dangerous. This activity will have even the most stubborn, anti-crafting boys excited about creating.

Supplies

  • Notched Craft Sticks
  • Dental Floss
  • Q-Tips

Mini Bow & Arrow Setup

The day before this activity place a few notched craft sticks into a bowl or bag of water. Notched sticks make this activity much easier, I you can find them on amazon. The craft sticks should be submerged completely under water.  This allows the wood to soften overnight and become more pliable, which will make it easier to bend into a bow shape. In addition to the notched sticks you will also need a spool of dental floss and some Q-Tips, which you probably already have on hand, or you can purchase anywhere.

(I used colored craft sticks. Some of the dye came off in the water causing it to turn green.)

How to make a Mini Bow & Arrow

After the craft sticks have become soft from sitting in the water.  Give each child one stick and about a foot of dental floss.

Have them tie one end of the dental floss around the top notched end of the craft stick.  Make sure that the floss tightly knotted.

Next have them wrap the floss around the other end of a notched craft stick.  This time you want to make sure that the floss is very tight, pull it until the stick bends into a crescent shape. Beware that the stick will split if you pull it too far, you want it to bend without breaking or splitting. Tie the floss in a knot around the end of the stick.  Cut off the excess dental floss. You should now have a perfect miniature bow.

To make the arrow cut a Q-Tip in half.  The half Q-Tip is your arrow. Place the Q-tip cut side against the dental floss, pull it back and watch it fly!.
