Race to Neptune is an active group game that get kids moving and practicing science knowledge. Can you find all eight planets and put them in order before the other team?
Supplies
- 16 balls
- Tape
- Sharpie
Setup
Gather 16 balls, I used ball pit balls, if you do not have these for your program get them. They are cheap and can be used for so many activities. While I like the ball pit balls, you can use tennis balls, playground balls, golf balls, any balls you have on hand.
Grab a roll of tape and a sharpie. Write the name of each planet on a piece of tape, and stick it to a ball. Repeat. You should have 16 “planet” balls.
- 2 Mercury
- 2 Venus
- 2 Earth
- 2 Mars
- 2 Jupiter
- 2 Saturn
- 2 Uranus
- 2 Neptune
After you have all the balls taped and labeled hide them in the playing area, This game can be played indoors but it’s more challenging when you can spread the balls around outdoors.
How to Play Race to Neptune
Place two cones in the playing area. Split the kids into two groups and assign each group a cone. On your signal each team will take off searching for all eight planets. When they find the planet they will place it by their cone. If a team finds a planet they already have, they must return it to where they found it.
Once a team has found all eight planets they must place them in order using the cone as the sun. The first team to correctly place the planets in order is the winner.
