Prep for Pack your suitcase Global Learning Activity

Prepare this activity by making the suitcases. I created the “Suitcases” for the kids by folding a large piece of construction paper in half, then adding a rounded handle I cut from scrapes.  I then printed the Free Arctic Adventure Supplies Sheet and glued it into the “suitcase”. Their are four adventure themes below. You can choose from Arctic Adventure, African Safari, Going Camping and Beach Trip.

Activity

Explain to the kids that you are going on an amazing adventure. Tell the kids what location you are traveling to then ask if anyone has ever been their before. Ask what they know about the travel destination. Show them the destination on a map.

If you are going on an arctic adventure, tell them that the land within the arctic has lots of snow and ice and that it is very cold most of the year. If you are going to Africa explain that it is in a region that is warm and sunny most of the time. You can reference nationalgeographic.com for some specific stats and information about the habitat you choose.

After kids have a good understanding of where they are “going”. Hand out a suitcase to each child and ask them to color the clothes they will take with them to the arctic.  Explain that it is important to pack light but also to make sure they have everything they will need.
