Make GIANT bubbles with this fun and simple craft that will have kids using engineering skills to create a bubble wand that will keep them busy for hours!
Supplies to make giant bubbles
- Wooden Dowels
- 2 eye hooks per bubble wand
- Athletic Tape
- String
- Washers or nuts
- Bubbles
How to make a Giant Bubble Wand
To start gather two wooden dowels and two eye hooks. Next, screw the eye hooks into the ends of the dowels, one in each dowel (preferred method). If you are using dowels that are two thin to screw in the eye hook you can use tape to secure the hook to the dowel. I recommend using athletic tape. The athletic tape is best for this activity because you can get it wet without it peeling away or losing its stick, I found an affordable roll on amazon.
Next cut the string. The length of the string is subjective, you want it to be long enough to make large bubbles but not so long that kids struggle to make the bubble. (I would recommend a 3 foot string to start)
Put the washer onto the string. With the washer in the center of the string put one end through one eye hook and the other end through the other eye hook. Then, knot the strings together. Now when you hold the two dowels the string should make a triangle shape with the washer being the third point. You are ready to make giant bubbles!
How to Make Giant Bubbles
To make the giant bubbles start by placing bubbles in a large container. You can use a standard bubble mix but I recommend “Giant Bubble Mix”. It’s a solution I got from Amazon specifically for giant bubbles that won’t pop! Then, hold the dowels together and dip the string into the bubble mixture. Next, pull the dowels up, allow the excess bubbles to drip off the end of the string and washer. Then pull the dowels apart slowly, allow the wind to blow a giant bubble!
