What is Meals on Wheels & How Can we Help?

Meals on Wheels is a national organization dedicated to delivering health meals to the elderly and those who can not easily get out of there homes.  Kids can decorate brown bags, these brown bags will be used to deliver to meals to those in the program. Meals on Wheels programs and participants are appreciative of brown lunch bags that kids decorate, they can lift the spirits of all those involved.

• Brown Lunch Bags (Larger ones)
• Markers
• Crayons
• Stamps
• Paint
• Any craft supplies you have!​

​How to Decorate Meals on Wheels Bags

Before you put any effort into this activity, call ahead to your local Meals on Wheels affiliate to ensure they can use brown bags for meal deliveries.

Explain to the kids what the meals on wheels program is and how it helps those who can not easily leave their homes.   Next, tell to the kids they can help brighten participant’s days by decorating the brown delivery bags.

Put out brown bags and some basic art supplies like markers and crayons. Ask kids to make beautiful detailed designs that can be enjoyed by others. After kids color the bags, collect them and drop them off to the local Meals on Wheels Coordinator.

This activity is acceptable year round and requires little preparation and guidance from adults. You can have brown bags in your craft supplies, and when kids need something to do, you can suggest they decorate a bag for meals on wheels. Its a great back pocket project that kids can do at anytime, and that the organization appreciates.
